Wooden Rocking Chair

The wooden rocking chair is a renowned piece of furniture that is known worldwide.  Many pictures come to one’s mind when they think of these special rocking chairs.  From the stereotypical picture of a grandma rocking in her living room with a crochet needle in hand, to the exhausted mother rocking her newborn child in the middle of the night.  From the picture of an old man sitting in his rocking chair on the front porch, to the child sitting on his wooden rocking horse.  This original chair has become an icon in our cultures today because of its comfortableness, many designs, and ease of use.

The Comfort Chair:
Rocking chairs are so prominent worldwide mainly because of the comfort they provide.  These chairs ease back pain because of their contour shape and their ability to move to the right angle.  The elderly and those with bad backs usually prefer a rocking chair over a hard, straight-back chair.  These unique chairs also provide great comfort to newborn children.  There is something about the rocking motion that can calm almost any screaming child.

Multiple Designs:
There are so many different designs of a wooden rocking chair.  There are high-back rocking chairs with short rockers and there are short-back chairs with long rockers.  There are rocking chairs in which a person can lay completely horizontal and there are other chairs in which a person can stay entirely vertical as the rocking chair glides back and forth (also known as gliders).  There are also little wooden children rocking chairs that take on various designs, shapes, and animals.

Ease of Use:
A childs rocking chair is known for its easy way of moving up and down while sitting.  Every child loves this motion; from new-born children to young vibrant kids.  Adults also enjoy the perpetual movement of the rocking chair as it easily moves back and forth in rhythm.  Even with the new fancy rocking chairs of today, the old-fashion wooden chairs are the simplest and easiest to maneuver and operate.  This is why young children love their rocking chairs and is the reason why there are so many elderly people constantly using their rocking chairs.

This popular chair has remained even through the many centuries of new chair designs and new fangled inventions.  It has been resilient to change because of its comfort ability, its many shapes and sizes, and its ease of use.  The wooden rocking chair will continue to have its place in most cultures of this world.
